GPS Tracking Arrest

A Perceptions building site in Riverton is the latest site to have been targeted by thieves.

At 2.34 am on Sunday morning 26/4/20 PACT Site Security investigators were alerted to the theft of an installed hot water unit from the BGC Housing Group site.

With a GPS device installed, the minute the hot water unit was removed from the external wall of the building, it contacted PACT investigators and was tracked from the building site in Wavel Ave, Riverton to an address a short distance away in Modillion Ave, Shelley.

Investigators liaised with Cannington Police who attended the address and conducted a search locating the hot water unit inside the premises.

An unemployed male was arrested and charged with stealing and is due to appear in the Perth Magistrates Court.

In the past two weeks, GPS tracking of building site assets has successfully identified three people involved in the theft of ovens and hot water units. With charges of Burglary, Stealing and Unlawful Possession this brings this year’s total to 11 people being charged with building site theft offences.

PACT Site Security, in conjunction with its members and WA Police, will continue to implement solutions, including GPS tracking of assets, enabling the identification and resultant charging of any persons involved in building site theft. With a ‘No Tolerance’ policy to theft, offenders must realise that our member’s residential building sites are no longer a soft target.
