January 2020 Partnership Against Crime Taskforce (PACT) Report

Welcome to 2020, with the building and construction industry taking a Xmas/NY break from 20/12/19, we have seen an expected increase in reports for January with the majority of the industry returning to work on January 6th. Although a significant number of reports, no major issues were reported across the metro or south-west areas. Illegal rubbish continues to be an issue, especially over the Xmas/NY period with rubbish being dumped in builders site bins and estate verges.

A total of 66 reports were received from members in January, 17 x burglaries, 25 x stealing, 10 x damage, 4 x graffiti, 10 x illegal rubbish. Of these, ten reports were from land developers across five developments and the remainder from residential builder members. 65% of all reported crime occurred in the southern suburbs.

Burglaries were reported across 13 suburbs with increased activity through inner-city suburbs of Carlisle, St James and Waterford where five burglaries were reported on two multiple unit sites with offenders targeting boxed white goods, bathroom and door furniture. A unit site in Middle Swan was also targeted on two occasions with burglaries and general vandal damage.  

Three hot water units were reported stolen from onsite installed positions in Beckenham, Badivis and Banksia Grove. With a GPS Tracking Device installed on an Impressions site in Banksia Grove, PACT investigators liaised with Joondalup Detectives to recovered the property. Police executed a search warrant and located the hot water system along with another four stolen hot water systems, more information here.

Theft of electrical cable, exterior taps and water meters were reported with four incidents in Coolbellup, two in Nollamarra, one in Cockburn Central and one in Alkimos.
