July 2019 Building and Construction Industry Crime Statistics

July has seen a general reduction in theft for PACT Site Security members with a total of 31 reports of burglary, theft and damage on construction sites. Offences included 6 x burglaries, 19 x stealing and 6 x damage reports with 73% of offences occurred in the southern suburbs.

Although down from 13 incidents reported in June, Calleya Estate in Treeby continued to be the hotspot area with 5 reported incidents. Bathroom fitting were stolen in a burglary with 20 bags of cement, roofing timber, 2 sinks and 4 basins reported stolen from 4 separate thefts from sites in the area.

In other areas 2 burglaries and a stealing offence occurred on a single site in Railway Avenue, Armadale where bathroom fitting, kitchen doors and mirrors were stolen. Three installed hot water systems were reported stolen in Carlisle, Maddington and Wellard whilst a burglary and theft of a hotplate and tapware in Bushmead resulted in all property being recovered on a building site next door and returned to the builder.

In Golden Bay 4 houses in close proximity all reporting vandal damage to windows and ceilings over 3 days in the school holiday period whilst a site in Coolbellup suffered extensive vandal damage with 7 windows smashed.

With June reporting identifying, Treeby, Hammond Park and Piara Waters as high crime areas PACT Site Security investigators deployed several GPS tracking devices onto members site within these areas. At 0545hrs on July 31st  GPS tracking devices were activated and resulted in the arrest of offenders and recovered of 3 hot water systems, read more here.

An ongoing investigation from March has resulted in a bricklayer being charged by Cockburn Police with the theft of a Glulam beam from a site in Hammond Park. The initial offence was witnessed by other trades who took photos of the incident and contacted PACT Site Security investigators.  

CCTV captured two incidents of display home theft, the first in Dianella where external lights were stolen, view here, local Police are continuing investigations after the vehicle has been identified in other offences in the area. A quantity of plants were stolen from a display in Lakelands where the offender used false registration plates during the offence, view here.
